The latest format being employed by the music industry in a desperate bid to shift units is the mini-album: a six-track release that, in theory, should make for a cheaper and filler-free product. Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy Tell'em is a perfect guinea pig. The bête noire of anyone who likes to imagine pop music has anything left worth saying, Soulja Boy has managed to spin one novelty dance craze (Crank That, included here) into a career. This release sees the 17-track US version of iSouljaBoyTellem pared down to six, and not much is missed. Astonishing stupidity abounds - "I been thinking lately so much about you/ Everything about you/ I like it, yeah I love it" is his idea of a romantic line - and the lesson of iSouljaBoyTellem is that simply being indefensible on most rational levels does not stop an album being enjoyable.
