Soul: Pixar unveils emotional first trailer for film starring Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey

Pixar has unveiled an emotional first trailer for Soula new animated film coming to the studio next year.

The clip, which lasts one minute and 30 seconds, focuses on Joe Gardner, the protagonist voiced by Jamie Foxx.

Gardner, a middle school music teacher in New York City, books an exciting jazz music gig before falling into a manhole on the street.

The fall causes his soul to get separated from his body as Gardner is transported to another dimension.

Gardner, as it turns out, has landed in the "You Seminar", a training facility for young souls who must become sufficiently developed before being placed in newborn babies.

In the trailer, Gardner encounters 22, an especially non-existential soul voiced by Tina Fey. When asked what she wants to be remembered for, 22 replies "Probably for... doing this funny cowboy dance", before launching into a demonstration of the goofy number.

The new teaser is full of inspirational tidbits prompting viewers to reflect on their higher purpose in life, such as: "We only have a short time on this planet. You want to become the person that you were born to be? Don't waste your time on all the junk of life. Spend your precious hours doing what will bring out the real you! The brilliant, passionate you that's ready to contribute something meaningful into this world!"

Soul will be released on 19 June, 2020 in the US and in the UK.
