Sorry We Missed You trailer: Ken Loach attacks zero-hour contracts in new film

After I, Daniel Blake, get ready for another dose of British social realism.

Director Ken Loach is back with a new drama film that tackles the very topical issue of zero-hour contracts in this tale set in Newcastle.

The film is an exploration of the contemporary world of work, the gig economy and the challenges faced by one family trying to hold it all together.

The official description reads: "Ricky and his family have been fighting an uphill struggle against debt since the 2008 financial crash. An opportunity to wrestle back some independence appears with a shiny new van and the chance to run a franchise as a self-employed delivery driver."

Also being tackled is the role of Ricky's wife Abby who is a contract nurse and home carer, whose worsening financial difficulties also impact her patients.

The film boasts no big names, starring up and comers such as Kris Hitchen, Debbie Honeywood, Rhys Stone, and Katie Proctor.

It sounds like harsh but necessary viewing from the British auteur, with the film competing at this year's Cannes Film Festival after I, Daniel Blake won the festival's top award, the Palme d'Or, back in 2016.

After I, Daniel Blake caused so much conversation in its examination of the benefits system in the UK, even in the House of Commons, and received such endorsement from Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn , will his latest offering prove as much of a discussion-starter?

Sorry We Missed You is released in UK cinemas on November 1, 2019.
