First things first, let’s rip off the Band-Aid: if you, like most of TikTok, were gearing up for a 90-minute Conrad POV extravaganza for episode five of The Summer I Turned Pretty, please take a moment. Breathe. According to Jenny Han herself, it’s not happening.
Yep, the creator, author and showrunner posted a TikTok responding to the hype with a Schitt’s Creek sound “bringing us down to Earth”, captioning it: “Episode five is not 90 min long — but I did direct it”.
So, as if watching Conrad yearn in high definition wasn’t traumatic enough… now this.
The “90-minute Conrad episode” rumour got so big that Jenny jumped in to squash it directly on her own TikTok, leaving devastated comments in her wake from fans saying things like, “My week’s ruined💔💔” and “So the whole of TikTok just hyped me up for nothing.”
A very valid reaction.

So, how did we even get here? After episode four dropped and the rumour mill picked up, the internet collectively decided we were being served a feature-length Conrad POV episode — something the fandom has begged for since day dot.
To be fair, there will be a Conrad POV episode (just as there are Conrad POV chapters in the books) — Christopher Briney hive assemble — and yes, Jenny Han is the director of episode five this season.

For anyone still emotionally raw, you’re not alone: most of us are still regrouping in the comments. One fan asked point-blank about “supersized”, and Jenny replied, “It means over an hour,” making it crystal clear.

“Supersized” season? Absolutely. More episodes than before? You bet — Prime Video extended this final season to 11 eps, the biggest yet, with some episodes running longer than the standard fare. But 90 minutes? Sorry, mates. We can only yearn for Conrad’s POV for just over an hour, not an entire evening.

So, while you might still need snacks to survive, you won’t miss your next train waiting for the credits to roll.
It’s hard not to feel a little swindled after being sold on a full-length, moody Conrad experience. Still, you’ll get Jenny Han’s vision, you’ll get a rare narrative shift, and — yes — you’ll get some of that vintage, tortured Conrad Fisher introspection you signed on for in the first place.
If misery needs company, at least we’re all in this together. Episode five comes out tonight on Prime Video, happy yearning!
