'Sorry for waking you up so early - but this kind of behaviour will not go unanswered'

A police officer has vowed 'this is just the start' after a series of raids were carried out in Gorton.

The warrants were carried out on Jetson Street and Claymore Street in the Abbey Hey area this morning. A number of people were arrested, police said.

Items were also seized. The raids were carried out as part of a crackdown into suspected drug-dealing and anti-social behaviour in the area.

Inspector Dan Pickavance said 'this kind of behaviour will not go unanswered' as he vowed to continue the crackdown. He thanked local residents who were disrupted this morning.

In a video posted on Twitter, he said: "Many thanks in advance for all the good people in the Jetson Street area of Abbey Hey for their patience and apologises for waking you up so early in the morning, due to a large number of police officers executing a series of warrants here on Jetson Street and Claymore Street.

"This is in response to the large amount of ASB that includes off-road bikes, drug-dealing and general nuisance in this area. I just want to let the good people of Gorton and Abbey Hey know that this kind of behaviour will not go unanswered.

"I'm here to look after your rights as decent members of the public and I will take firm action at every step, such as what's happened this morning, for unacceptable behaviour that has been going on in this particular area. I can confirm a number of arrests have been made and a series of items have been seized.

"This is just the start for this particular area. This isn't the end. Thank you very much for your time and co-operation."

A tweet posted by Gorton Police added: "This morning x3 warrants have been executed on Jetson/Claymore Street in Abbey Hey which relates to drug dealing & ASB. A number of arrests have been made. This behaviour will not be tolerated in our community and action will be taken."
