Sorry buddy, I'll return the money: Thief leaves note in burgled house

BHOPAL: Police in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh are looking for a 'repentant' thief, who left an apology note after stealing valuables from the house of a cop.

"Sorry dost, majboori thi (Sorry buddy, I was helpless)," he wrote in the note, adding that he had to commit the crime to "save a friend's life". "If I had not done this, then my friend would have died. Don't worry, as soon as I get the money, I will return it," he promised.

The house he targeted belongs to a policeman posted in Chhattisgarh. His family lives in Bhind city in a colony under Kotwali police station.

Police said that the policeman's wife and children had left on June 30 for a relative's place. They returned on Monday night to find the locks broken, and things scattered about the house. Silver and gold ornaments were missing. Police feel the thief knows the family well.
