Former TV news anchor Sorrayuth Suthassanachinda has lost his appeal against the 13 years and four months prison term handed down by the Criminal Court for embezzlement of advertising revenue.
The Appeal Court delivered its ruling on Tuesday morning.
The case involves his company, Rai Som Co, and two other defendants, Rai Som employee Montha Theeradet and former MCOT Plc employee Pichapa Iamsa-ard, who was formerly known as Chanapha Boonto.
The court found they used forged and damaged documents to cheat the Mass Communications Authority of Thailand out of 138 million baht in advertising revenue during Sorrayuth's tenure as host of a TV news programme a decade ago.
The court in February 2016 sentenced Sorrayuth and Montha each to 13 years and four months in jail for supporting malfeasance by a government official. Pichapa was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. Rai Som was fined 80,000 baht.
The three defendants were released on bail of 2 million baht pending appeal.
The Appeal Court ruled against Sorrayuth, Montha and Pichapa on Tuesday.
The applied for release on bail pending an appeal to the Supreme Court.
The Appeal Court decided to let the Supreme Court rule on the bail request, which was likely to take a few days. Each offered a surety of 4 million baht.
Sorrayuth was to be detained at Bangkok Remand Prison pending the court's decision, and the two women at the Central Women Correctional Institution in Chutuchak district.
