Television X, owned by Daily Express and Daily Star proprieter Richard Desmond, has a rich history of spoofing zeitgeisty TV shows and recasting them in its own, ahem, unique style.
But the porn channel’s latest offering, an X-rated version of the surprise Channel 4 hit Gogglebox, in which you can watch people watching TV, may be causing the most hoo-ha yet.
Gobblecocks (can we say that? - ed) features some names that viewers of the original may find familiar: posh boozers Beth and Don, Sondra and Kassandra in Brixton and OAPs Deon and Joan.
As Television X puts it: “Why watch ordinary people viewing regular TV when you can watch randy people watch adult TV!”
Why indeed. The Sun reports that Channel 4 executives are furious that new parody laws mean they are powerless to stop Desmond’s porn broadcaster from aping the format, music and voiceover style of their show.
A C4 source told the Sun: “Channel 4 are not happy, but the law now effectively protects Television X from prosecution.”
