Sophie Ellis-Bextor joins Amanda Holden on Neighbours as it films in UK

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is the latest Brit to join Aussie soap Neighbours as it films in London this month.

The Murder On The Dance Floor singer joins Amanda Holden on the show as they both film scenes with actress Jemma Donovan.

Jemma, who plays Harlow Robinson on the show, is the daughter of Neighbours' royalty Jason Donovan, who portrayed Ramsay Street's Scott Robison 30 years ago.

Mum-of-five Sophie will make a cameo appearance with Jemma as they walk along the capital's River Thames.

Harlow is said to be taken by surprise when the singer pops up to give her advice regarding her late mother Prue.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor said it was 'a joy' to join Neighbours (PA)

Harlow is in London trying to solve a family mystery concerning her mother, who was played by Denise van Outen in 2020.

In a bid to find out the truth she also catches up with her aunt Harriet, who is played by Heart Breakfast presenter Amanda Holden.

Viewers will be able to see Sophie’s scenes next spring in the UK and Australia, when Harlow comes to London.

On joining the cast of Neighbours, Sophie said: “Neighbours was a huge part of my school days.

"We all watched it, loved it, talked about it. It’s a joy to now be able to say I’ve been in it!

"Thanks to everyone from the cast and crew for being so lovely. I loved it!”

On Sophie’s casting, Jason Herbison, Neighbours’ executive producer, gushed: “We are absolutely thrilled with how filming has gone with the wonderful Amanda Holden and Jemma Donovan, to have Sophie Ellis-Bextor join us is the absolute icing on the cake and we can’t wait to share the storyline with our UK audience next year.”

If This Ain't Love singer Sophie regaled fans during lockdown with her much-needed Kitchen Disco.

The 42-year-old star went live on Instagram every Friday evening to try and lift people's spirits with a rendition of her greatest hits.

Sophie recently announced she will be bringing these shows to life with her Kitchen Disco Tour, starting next year.

Describing her excitement, she said: “During lockdown, our family kitchen discos became a precious time where we could all bop about and be a bit silly.

"It made me feel connected to everyone who joined us and I can honestly say the music was a real tonic which brought sparkly joy to my soul every Friday.

"I want to give everyone a night where just for a little while, we can all lose ourselves under the mirror ball and dance and have fun. Won’t that feel magical?! I CANNOT WAIT!”
