Sophia Myles wore gloves to hold dying dad's hand - and he'll only get five minute funeral

Sophia Myles has revealed her dad will only get a five minute funeral after dying from coronavirus.

The Transformers and Doctor Who actress spoke about her father Peter Myles' final moment during an emotional interview on Good Morning Britain.

Sophia was forced to wear gloves to hold her dying 76-year-old father's hand as he sadly passed away in hospital.

She is grateful to have been allowed to spend five minutes in the room with her father in protective clothes - but admitted she missed being able to kiss his brow or touch his skin.

The actress is now trying to arrange her father's funeral in testing circumstances amid the UK lockdown.

Sophia said: "My dad was 76 and did have underlying health conditions and contracted the virus. Within I think only a few days of being informed about that he passed away.

"My dad's funeral - we're finding it very very hard to arrange that because there's a back log at the moment.

"I was one of the lucky ones. I got to see him before he died and under strict medical advice I was allowed in with a visor and medical uniform.

Sophia revealed she was only allowed to stay in the room for five minutes and at a distances of two metres, but she could grab his ahnd.

She explained: "They allowed me at one moment to hold his hand but I was wearing protective gloves and we couldn’t have that flesh to flesh moment, kissing his brow or holding his hand.

"It was obvious that his breathing was slowing down rapidly. People are dying because ultimately they can't breathe and it’s an unnatural death because their bodies go at a time they don't want to die.

Sophia and her family are now going through the extremely difficult process of arranging Peter's funeral.

With the growing pandemic and numbers of deaths rising - Peter may not get the proper send off he deserves.

Sophia said: "I think they're shortening the period of the service. We get about five minutes and a limited number of close friends and relatives."

Sophia also spoke about the "eerie silence" at the hospital as she praised the NHS staff.

She said: "I had to wait half hour to find correct uniform for me as so busy. What I noticed was an eerie silence on the ward.

"The nurses were very quiet. It felt so frightening. I could tell everyone was on edge."
