THANE: Residents could soon get to know more about the historic value of Thane jail as the district administration is working towards promoting its heritage value and defining its importance for the next generation through a series of informative events during the forthcoming Independence Day, Collector Rajesh Narvekar informed Friday.
In a press meet on Friday Narvekar said an interactive session for residents in and around the Thane jail would be held.
He explained that the jail held notable importance as it was in use since the Portuguese rule and also freedom fighter V D Sawarkar was lodged here before being taken to Andaman.
“We plan to decorate one part of the jail premises on the fringes which could be accessed by residents. A light and sound show highlighting the history of the premises is also being planned,” Narvekar said.
