Sony is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the PlayStation-owned studio best known for high-end remakes like Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus.
According to Jason Schreier’s report for Bloomberg, Sony said the decision followed a recent business review and that Bluepoint will close in March. The Austin-based team has roughly 70 employees, and Sony said it will try to place some impacted staff into roles elsewhere across its global studios where possible.

Bluepoint built its reputation as a competent remaster and remake studio for PlayStation’s back catalog, repeatedly taking older releases and rebuilding them to modern standards. The team’s PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls shipped as a launch title in 2020 and sold almost 1.5 million copies within a year.
Sony acquired Bluepoint in 2021 and positioned it as a key part of PlayStation Studios, highlighting its history of remasters and remakes across franchises like Uncharted, Shadow of the Colossus, and Gravity Rush.
In the years since, Bluepoint appeared to shift away from pure remake work. The studio provided support on God of War Ragnarök and was tied to a live-service project that was canceled in early 2025. At the time of those cancellations, Sony said Bluepoint and Bend Studio would remain open, and work would continue on determining their next projects.
Sony’s spokesperson commented:
Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity and craftsmanship.
Sony has also made other high-profile cuts around the same strategy shift, including the 2024 closure of Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi, alongside the cancellation of Neon Koi’s in-development project. Outside of PlayStation Studios proper, Bungie also went through major layoffs in 2024, with more than 200 roles cut as part of a wider restructuring.
Bluepoint’s closure is notable because, after the recent announcement of God of War Trilogy remakes, everyone was wondering if it’s Bluepoint that’s making these games, considering the studio’s previous attachment to the franchise. As it turned out, the remakes are being made by Santa Monica in-house, with TC Carson going back to voice the younger Kratos.
