Sony's Hirai receives 24.5 million dollars for last year as president

Sony Corp. Chairman Kazuo Hirai, who stepped down as president and chief executive officer in April, received executive compensation worth 2.7 billion yen (about 24.5 million dollars) for fiscal 2017, the company's securities report for the business year ending in March showed on Tuesday.

It is the largest executive compensation paid to a Sony executive, according to the company.

Hirai's executive compensation includes 1.182 billion yen in retirement pay given as stock options, 244 million yen in base salary and 647 million yen in performance-based pay. The amount reflects the company's strong business performance of late.

According to Tokyo Shoko Research, Ltd., the annual executive compensation paid to Hirai is the fifth largest in Japan since the business year ending March 2010, when listed companies were required to disclose executive compensation worth 100 million yen or more.
