Sony Music could open a large new London headquarters in King’s Cross, it emerged on Thursday.

The label, which represents artists such as Pharrell Williams, is closing in on a deal to take 124,000 square feet of space, Property Week magazine reported.

The 4 Handyside Street office is owned by developer Argent and pension fund AustralianSuper. The landlord declined to comment.

If a lease is finalised, Sony, which could not be reached for comment, would move from its 97,000 square head office on Derry Street, just off Kensington High Street.

A number of businesses in the industry have relocated to north London in recent years. Universal Music took space at Four Pancras Square, and PRS for Music, the organisation that represents composers and songwriters, has also moved there.

A major regeneration of King’s Cross has taken place. Scores of new shops, offices and bars have opened there, and Google is planning to open a huge new London HQ there.
