New England Patriots running back Sony Michel enjoyed a productive rookie season in 2018, with a Super Bowl win, six postseason touchdowns and 209 carries for 931 yards and six touchdowns in the regular season. Naturally, he intends to build on it.
Michel seemed to grow more confident and more productive on a weekly level. This offseason, he seems intent upon continuing that trend.
“I’m just going back to the basics and get better,” Michel said, via NESN.com, at a BJ’s in Franklin while promoting “NFL Super Bowl LIII Champions: New England Patriots.” “Just trying to work on some of my movements, speed. It’s everything. You always want to work on all aspects of your game.”
Michel found space between the tackles during his rookie season, with the offensive line beginning to mesh and his ability to see the field and set up blockers becoming more advanced. That’s what culminated in his productive playoff games, when he seemed to start realizing his potential. But like most Patriots, he’s got a short memory. He’ll soon put Super Bowl LIII out of his mind.
“Once we get back rolling, gotta start from square one,” Michel told reporters. “You can’t really approach it as a Super Bowl champion. You gotta go as somebody who hasn’t won nothing. It’s going to be a new year, a new start, just gotta treat it like that.”
