Sony delays PlayStation 5 launch event amid protests across the US

It’s one of the most highly anticipated gaming consoles this year, but it seems that PlayStation 5 fans could have to wait a bit longer to find out more about the console.

Sony has announced that it has delayed hosting a showcase event for the PlayStation 5.

Sony said: “We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4.

“While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heart.”

Meanwhile, Sony added in an earlier post that it denounces the violence against the black community.

It added: "We denounce systemic racism and violence against the black community.

“We will continue to work towards a future marked by empathy and inclusion and stand with our black creators, players, employees, families and friends. #BlackLivesMatter.”

Sony isn't the only gaming firm to delay a launch amid the protests across the US.

Activision, the developer behind Call of Duty, has also revealed that it is delaying updates to Modern Warfare, Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile, following protests across the US.

The updates were both expected to launch this week.

It tweeted: “While we all look forward to playing the new seasons of Modern Warfare, Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile, now is not the time.

“We are moving the launches of Modern Warfare Season 5 and Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 to later dates.

“Right now it’s time for those speaking up for equality, justice and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you.”

Sony and Activision are yet to reveal the new launch dates for the PlayStation 5 and Call of Duty updates.
