PlayStation 5 could launch alongside a second console, report claims

It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated consoles of all time, and now it seems that the PlayStation 5 could be launched alongside a second console.

A new report claims that Sony is working on two consoles - the main PlayStation 5, and a second cloud gaming system.

The report, by SegmentNext , points to a patent filed by Sony on August 29 to the United States Patent Office.

The patent says: “Systems and methods are provided for cloud gaming.

“One system includes a plurality of computing resources in one or more data centers. The plurality of computing resources is configured to execute instances of games for client devices that are remote from the one or more data centers.

“Each instance for an executable game is associated with a processor, a graphics processing unit (GPU), and memory.”

While this suggests that Sony is looking into a cloud gaming system, as per usual, the tech giant is yet to comment on the patent.

Playstation 5: Everything we know so far

It remains unclear when, or even if, the cloud gaming system could be launched.

The patent comes shortly after new 3D renders of the PlayStation 5 were released, offering a glimpse of what the next-generation console could look like.

The renders are created from illustrations in a mysterious patent application filed by Sony and unearthed by Dutch website LetsGoDigital earlier this week.

Based on the designs in the patent, the entire PS5 will be shaped like a "V" – the Roman numeral for five – with a multitude of vents and heat fins lining all sides of the console to keep it cool.

In the renders , the vents are illuminated with blue lights, and there is a series of touch-sensitive buttons on the front of the device to handle power, eject the disc, and control Blu-Ray playback.

There are also multiple USB ports for connecting other devices and peripherals.
