Sonny Jay hopes Dancing on Ice will give a six pack to impress love of his life

Dancing on Ice star Sonny Jay is hoping for skating success after Simon Cowell dropped him as a singer.

But the former Britain’s Got Talent contestant reveals his motivation on the show is less about dancing, more about getting ripped to impress the love of his life.

DJ Sonny, 27, says all the training with pro partner Angela Egan looks like making fiancee Lauren Faith’s wish come true.

The Capital FM breakfast show host says: “One of the first things she said when I agreed to do the show was ‘Oh, you might get a six pack’.

“In lockdowns, I put on weight. Now I’m putting it on in muscle. The top half is feeling good. It’s a nice feeling. I’m more confident.”

Certainly a better one than being dumped by BGT judge Cowell’s record label Syco after his breakthrough with band Loveable Rogues on the show in 2012.

So has Sonny’s old mentor wished him luck? “I haven’t heard from him since,” laughs Sonny.

“But there’s no hard feelings.”

While Sonny’s DOI journey has been smooth so far, others have been unlucky.

Emmerdale’s Joe-Warren Plant and comedian Rufus Hound left because they tested positive for Covid, while presenter Denise van Outen and Billie Faiers of TOWIE fame were forced out by injuries.

Dancing on Ice is on ITV tonight at 6pm.
