Sonic the Hedgehog will be getting a sequel, confirms Paramount

A sequel to the 2020 film Sonic the Hedgehogis already in development, Paramount Pictures has confirmed.

The live-action family film was an adaptation of the hit Sega video game franchise, and saw comedian Ben Schwartz voice the nippy blue hedgehog.

According to Variety, director Jeff Fowler and writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller are all set to return.

Confirming the news, Fowler tweeted: ”ROUND TWO WITH THE BLUE!!” The post was accompanied by a picture of Sonic.

Sonic the Hedgehog received mixed reviews upon its release, with The Independent‘s Clarisse Loughrey describing the film as “nothing we haven’t seen before”.

“File this one away next to the live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks, the live-action Yogi Bear, and the live-action Rocky and Bullwinkle,” she wrote in her review.

But despite the reviews, Sonic the Hedgehog was a box office success, making more than $300m (roughly £245m) worldwide.

Along with Schwartz, the filmalso starred Jim Carrey, who played the villainous Dr Robotnik.
