Kart racers other than Mario Kart generally don’t generate much hype, but that’s not the case with Sonic Racing Crossworlds. It appears that Sega and Nintendo will be battling once again for kart racing dominance, and we’re here for it. Crossworlds enters the market with cool mechanics, unique track designs, and deep gadget and kart customization.
But what will really attract people to the game is the insane roster of characters. There are a lot of cool collaborations here from non-Sega franchises, and some of these characters are only playable in Sonic Racing Crossworlds. We already have a good idea of what’s to come, but Sega recently released a full roadmap to drum up more excitement. Here’s a quick look at the Sonic Racing Crossworlds Post-Launch Roadmap.
A Great Collection Of Free And Paid Characters
As if the already stacked launch day roster, including Hatsune Miku, wasn’t enough, SEGA has promised to deliver tons of free content drops and some paid releases as well. In Q4 of 2025, we will be receiving four free playable characters. We get Hatsune Miku, who is playable at launch, and then Joker from Persona 5, along with Ichiban from Yakuza: Like A Dragon. The last free playable character is unknown, for now. If you get the season pass, you’ll also unlock Minecraft characters such as Steve, Creeper, and Alex. It doesn’t end there, though, as we get Patrick and SpongeBob, too.
That’s just for Q4 of 2025, so expect these characters to be playable just a couple of weeks after launch. Q1 of 2026 will see the arrival of Pac-Man and the Ghosts as paid additions alongside two unknown characters that will be available for free. Q2 will add Mega Man and Proto Man, with an additional four free characters. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Avatar Legends will be the main drops in Q3, with two more free characters.
SEGA will be adding both paid and free content in the game. Paid content will be available with the season pass, and the free content will be available as you update the game. Each Season Pass Content Pack will include new characters, one new vehicle, one new track, emotes, and sounds. The Free Content Drop is set to include one new playable character, one new vehicle, emotes, and sounds. There is also some speculation that we’re set to see DC characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and maybe even The Flash. There was recently a Sonic X DC comic collaboration, so there is some weight to that idea.
