Congress plans mega rally in Nagpur on December 28 for foundation day celebration

In its preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party will organise a rally in Nagpur to celebrate its foundation day.

The event, which is expected to draw a massive crowd of 10 lakh Congress workers from across the State, will see the participation of prominent leaders, including national president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress parliamentary party president Sonia Gandhi, MP Rahul Gandhi, and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

The party’s general secretary (organisation), K.C. Venugopal, on Friday held a strategic meeting with Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole, Legislature Congress Party leader Balasaheb Thorat, and Opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar, former Chief Ministers Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan, aimed to coordinate efforts for the upcoming rally.

Reflecting on the increased public support for the party nationwide, Mr. Venugopal highlighted the significant rise in votes during the recent Assembly elections in four states.

With recent successes in Karnataka and Telangana, he expressed optimism about Congress’s electoral prospects and criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, terming its actions as “dictatorial”.

“The entire country is in pain because of the historic levels of unemployment, price rise, hatred, and a collapse of India’s democratic institutions. Through this rally, we will send a strong message to each and every Indian that this will not be allowed to go on any further and the Congress will give a new path for India’s progress,” Mr. Venugopal said.

He also asked how the country will be safe when its Parliament is not. “The Parliament, which is the temple of democracy, has been attacked twice so far and both times it was the BJP’s government. When the Opposition parties, including the Congress, question the government regarding the security breach, 14 MPs were suspended but no action was taken against the BJP MP who gave passes to these attackers,” Mr. Venugopal said.

Mr. Patole said that the rally would be historic and invigorate the party workers in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

“Over 10 lakh people from across the State will attend the rally in Nagpur. Congress leaders, functionaries, workers, Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, NSUI, all cells and departments of the party will work towards making this rally a success. This will invoke enthusiasm and set the stage for transformative changes in the party and the nation,” he said.

The Nagpur rally is expected to witness the participation of Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled States, members of the Congress Working Committee, Legislature Party leaders, Leaders of the Opposition, and Congress State presidents from across the nation.
