Jan. 15--The longtime home of Robert B. Sherman, who wrote songs for many memorable animated films, has sold in Beverly Hills for $9.4 million. The stately two-story had come on the market in late November at $9.95 million.
Built in 1924 and later expanded, the house blends French provincial and Hollywood Regency styles in its 8,152 square feet of open-plan living space. High ceilings, walls of glass and a mirror-backed bar are among interior details.
Dining and living rooms, a bonus room, a den and a breakfast room are among the interior spaces. The main house has three fireplaces, six bedrooms and five bathrooms. Another bedroom and bathroom are in the guesthouse.
There are fireplaces in the living room, den and master bedroom.
A lanai and a covered patio extend the entertaining and living area outdoors. The more than half-acre grounds include a swimming pool, lawn and mature trees.
Sherman, who died three years ago at 86, wrote songs for such classic films as "Mary Poppins," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "The Jungle Book" and "Winnie the Pooh."
In collaboration with his brother, Richard, he won Oscars for the song "Chim Chim Cher-ee" and for the "Mary Poppins" score. They also wrote the song "It's a Small World (After All)" used for the Disneyland ride.
Jeff Hyland and Susan Smith of Hilton Hyland, an affiliate of Christie's International Real Estate, were the listing agents. Hosana Saputra of Surterre Properties represented the buyer.
