Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri has dismissed speculation of a rift between Bhumjaithai (BJT) leader Anutin Charnvirakul and influential figure Newin Chidchob, insisting reports about an internal conflict are unfounded.
His remarks came after People's Party deputy leader Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn warned that tensions within the Interior Ministry could mirror the split between former prime minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and former deputy prime minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, posing a risk to government stability.
Mr Songsak, a senior BJT figure from Buri Ram, said media reports had exaggerated differences between the two.
"From what I have seen, there is nothing," he said, adding that differing opinions are normal and should not be mistaken for conflict.
He dismissed comparisons with the Prayut-Prawit split, saying the situations involved different generations, and again denied reports of divisions within the party's "blue camp".
Mr Wiroj, meanwhile, said the reported Interior Ministry tensions should be resolved quickly before they escalate.
He argued such conflicts often stem from close aides rather than leaders themselves, citing the breakdown of relations between Gen Prayut and Gen Prawit.
Referring to media reports, Mr Wiroj said Department of Provincial Administration director-general Narucha Kosacivilize was widely seen as being backed by Mr Newin and had acted without regard for Mr Anutin's authority as prime minister and interior minister.
He said Mr Narucha had ignored warnings and instead relied on influential backers to intervene, adding that such conduct, if true, would make effective administration impossible.
Mr Wiroj described the situation as an "abscess" that had not yet burst, but warned it could become a serious threat if left unresolved.
