Lhong 1919, the riverside Thai-Chinese art-heritage compound, will celebrate Songkran with family-friendly activities from Saturday until Monday.
Held under the theme "Yoo Yen Pen Sook", the three-day event invites the public to take part in a number of activities, including the bathing of a replica of Luang Pho Somprattana, the principal Buddha image of Wat Pichayayatikaram, and taking part in the Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony.
There will be cooking workshops, giving participants an opportunity to learn to make traditional Thai desserts such as foi thong (golden egg yolk threads), thong yip (pinched gold egg yolks), thong ek (wheat flour dumplings with egg yolks) and bulan dan mek (streamed rice cake with egg yolk drop).
Other traditional arts-and-crafts workshops will show how to make flower garlands, traditional paper cuttings and herb-infused medicinal liquor. All proceeds from the workshops will be donated to the Siriraj Foundation.
Visitors can also indulge in sumptuous street food served at various kiosks while enjoying the Thai long-drum contemporary dance performed amid the historical Chinese buildings of Chao Phraya riverside.
