Songkhla: Two men were arrested yesterday with 651 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine valued at over 520 million baht in Songkhla and Phitsanulok yesterday, say police.
The suspects were identified as Samphan Sae-han, 29, and Baramee Yangsapchareon, 37, both Phrae residents.
Mr Samphan was arrested in front of a Shell petrol station on the Asian Highway in tambon Tha Chang, Bang Klam district, Songkhla about 1am on Saturday. He was driving a pickup at the time.
Mr Baramee, who was accompanying him, managed to flee, but was later apprehended at a police checkpoint in tambon Wat Bot, Wat Bot district, Phitsanulok.
Provincial Police Region 9 chief Ronnasil Phusara said both suspects had brought the drugs from the North.
The duo along with the seized drugs were taken to a police press briefing at Hat Yai police station in Songkhla.
Pol Lt Gen Ronnasil said an initial probe indicates the drugs were to be stored in Songkhla before being delivered to crime syndicates elsewhere in the deep South.
They were later to be delivered to a transnational narcotics gang in Malaysia.
