'Son will contest from my seat’: Former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa hints at hanging boots

SHIVAMOGGA/BENGALURU: Former Karnataka CM and veteran BJP politician BS Yediyurappa announced on Friday his retirement from electoral politics and declared that his son, party state vice president BY Vijayendra, will contest the 2023 assembly polls from his Shikaripur constituency, which he has represented eight times.

“I won’t contest the next elections from Shikaripur. Vijayendra will contest in my place. I pray to the people of Shikaripur with folded hands to make him victorious with a bigger margin,” Yediyurappa, 79, said at Anjanapura, in Shikaripur, Shivamogga district.

Yediyurappa said he will undertake a state tour from August 21 to 31 to spur BJP to win at least 150 seats.

Vijayendra said he will respect his father’s decision and contest from Shikaripur. “I’ll try to live up to the faith and affection people have in Yediyurappa’s family,” he said, adding he wouldn’t pressure his father to reconsider the decision. “Hehas been involved in BJP’s organisational activities earlier, and he will continue in the future too. He will remain active in politics. ”
