Son's desperate appeal for vintage car to lead 'hero' dad's funeral procession

A son has launched an emotional appeal to trace a vintage car to lead his dads funeral procession next week.

John Muncie is desperate to find a red MK1 Escort to take his 'hero' dad on his final journey on Wednesday May 12.

His dad, Bill Muncie, owned the car when he met John's mother and had dreamt of getting back inside of one before he died aged 63 on Monday.

Unfortunately Bill, from Hamilton, wasn't able to do so and now John is desperate to honour his final wish.

John told the Record: "We are extremely humbled by the overwhelming support.

"We have been offered so many cars to escort my dad on his final drive but we haven’t yet been able to get a Red MK1 Escort.

"Any help to fulfil this wish would be greatly appreciated."

In a bid to trace the car he posted an appeal for help on Facebook.

He said: "URGENT APPEAL for RED MK1 Escort to lead funeral procession.

"My Dad owned a red mk1 with a black roof when he met my mum and one thing he wanted to do was get a run in one before he passed but unfortunately we never got a chance to make it happen.

"With all the petrol heads a know someone must have or know someone with a mk1 that can do me a turn and lead my Dads funeral procession on Wednesday 12th May.

"From ML3 to G72 0TT"

Before he posted the appeal, John included a touching tribute to his late dad and described him as a hero.

He wrote: "Bill Muncie 01/08/1957 - 03/05/2021

"A Son, A Husband, A Father, A Brother. OUR HERO!

"My Dad never looked for praise, Never one to boast, Quietly working for the ones he loved most.

"Mums Best Friend, Her Rock, A man who’s wants were very few, With worries that went unspoken to.

"Our Protector & Sat Nav through the storms of life no matter the strife.

"Always there for his Wife.

"Until our next adventure. Rest Easy Big Guy Forever in our heart."
