The son and heir of Isak Andic, the founder of fashion retailer Mango, is being treated as a suspect in the fashion tycoon’s death, almost a year after he plunged off a cliff.
Isak, the owner of the global fashion giant, died in Barcelona in December after falling nearly 100 metres while hiking with his eldest son, Jonathan, in the Montserrat mountains region.
While Jonathan was initially deemed as merely a witness to the tragedy when Isak’s death was ruled accidental last year, authorities are now probing Jonathan’s potential involvement in the death, according to multiple Spanish outlets.

El Periódico reports that the inconsistencies in Jonathan’s testimonies about the death have prompted a judicial review, while El País reports that the investigation has shifted from a mountain accident to a possible homicide.
With that, authorities have now changed Jonathan’s status from witness to suspect, according to sources close to the investigation.
The shifted investigation will now reportedly involve authorities looking into the content on Jonathan’s phone, including potentially deleted photos from the hike, as well as his call logs and the route the pair took on the day of Isak’s death.
At the start of the investigation, Jonathan — who was the sole witness to the death — told police he was walking just ahead of his father on the hike when he heard stones falling, at which point he turned to see Isak suddenly falling off the edge of the path.
But El Pais reports that Jonathan’s version of events did not align with forensic evidence of the scene — one of multiple alleged inconsistencies within his witness statements.
Jonathan also allegedly told police that he had left his car in one place when it was actually found in another area, and that he hadn’t taken photos of the hike when he had.
Despite the updates, no direct evidence of foul play has been found and Jonathan has not been arrested. In a statement, per Reuters, representatives for the Andic family attested to Joanthan’s innocence.

“The Andic family has not commented, and will not comment, on Isak Andic’s death. It wishes to show respect for the ongoing proceedings and will continue co-operating fully with the authorities. The family is confident that this process will end soon and that Jonathan Andic’s innocence will be proven,” the statement read.
Isak, who opened the first Mango store in Barcelona back in 1984, was reportedly worth almost $7 billion (AUD) at the time of his death. Jonathan was appointed vice-president of Mango’s board after his dad’s death.
