Son of Man City favourite signs first professional contract with club

The son of former Man City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, D'Margio, has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The youngster is following in his father's footsteps as he makes his way through the City youth ranks playing as a right-winger and has been rewarded for his excellent form in the U18s last season.

Wright-Phillips played 22 times in the U18 Premier League last season, scoring four times and also adding an impressive 11 assists, as well as making three appearances in the FA Youth Cup.

A particular highlight was his first game of the season in a 6-0 win against Blackburn Rovers in which he contributed half of the goals thanks to his own strike and setting up two.

The 17-year-old has been at the club for six years and announced that he'd signed his professional contract on Instagram.

"Happy to sign my pro contract and a lot of hard work to come," he wrote in the caption.

Speaking in February to MEN Sport, Shaun Wright-Phillips shared just how proud he is of his son, though insisting he still has a lot of work to do.

"I'm very proud of him. He's still learning and still physically has to get there but there's no better place to learn really - especially right now."

Wright-Phillips has already got off to a solid start for the U18s this year, with three appearances and an assist to his name, and he may be one to keep an eye on in the future.
