Son of jailed Carlow puppy farmer Jim Kavanagh claims family sent death threats

A son of jailed puppy farmer Jim Kavanagh has claimed his family have been sent death threats.

Jamie Kavanagh, 20, from Myshall in Co Carlow, told how they have been attacked despite being hit by tragedy with the loss of his 16-year-old brother.

Eamon died when the car he was driving smashed into a wall – just two days after their father was sentenced.

Jamie posted on Facebook: “There has been a campaign of disgusting, violent hate against my family and I have just come to the stage where I am sick of it.

"My father pleaded guilty for a mistake he made in his life and if he had killed a person we would not have got the same abuse.

“They also seem to get joy out of the fact that my 16-year-old brother was tragically killed.

“Then to get sent death threats and be told our house is going to be burnt out, have we not suffered enough?”

Jamie shared some of the abusive messages his family have received on social media.

People commented wishing his father dies behind bars and that karma was the reason behind the death of his brother. He asked his Facebook friends to share his message to help stop the online abuse.

He wrote: “Facebook just seems to pass a blind eye on all of this abuse. What is actually wrong with people? This makes me sick.”

Jamie’s father Jim was jailed for three years on February 22 after hoarding more than 300 dogs in one of Ireland’s biggest puppy farms. The judge ordered him to pay €35,000 to the ISPCA.

Jamie’s mother Jenny Kavanagh received a suspended sentence.
