Son of former Liverpool owner in talks to buy Nottingham Forest's arch-rivals Derby County - report

It is being reported that the son of former Liverpool owner George Gillett is in talks to buy Nottingham Forest's arch-rivals Derby County.

The Daily Mail says Gillett's son, Foster, has held discussions with Rams owner and chairman Mel Morris about a takeover which values the club at around £60m.

But DerbyshireLive understands no discussions are taking place and there are no bids on the table.

Morris has in the past year or so made no secret of the fact he would be open to offers of new investment.

There has been interest from Europe, the United States, Canada and the Far East in that time.

Morris, when he last provided an update publicly in July, said he had not been "aggressive in trying to find investment" and admitted he would be reluctant to step aside entirely from the club.

"We've said to people that we're open to offers to come in and invest," Morris said at the time, adding: "That's a tough decision for us, because we're building something here and therefore we have to have someone who wants to come and support that, or if someone wanted to take me out of that, someone who is going to continue that.

"It's important not just to me but to the fan base, and it's also important to the rest of the players and staff here, so we've got to be mindful of that.

"That makes it very much harder to do."

The Daily Mail's article claims Foster Gillett and Morris had positive discussions before the deal was held up by Derby’s promotion bid last season, which ended when they lost to Aston Villa in the Championship Play-Off Final in May.

Gillett Jnr, who is managing director of the Colorado-based Booth Creek Management, was on the board at Liverpool during his father’s tenure at Anfield.
