Son of Father Ted star Dermot Morgan has emotional message as some call for show to be pulled from air

The son of Father Ted star Dermot Morgan has defended the show and his father as it comes under scrutiny amid Black Lives Matter protests.

Little Britain, The Mighty Boosh and Bo Selecta are some of the programmes that have already been pulled from schedules and streaming services over racial depictions.

And with some calling for Father Ted to face similar sanctions, the son of Dermot Morgan has pleaded to keep the show alive.

Taking to Twitter, the son of the man who played main character Ted said the show is all the family have left of Dermot.

Don tweeted: "All my family have left of my father is his work and reputation. He abhorred racism of every type and actively worked against it.

"Whilst insignificant compared to the suffering and upset of victims of racism, you might forgive me for feeling more than a little sad about this."

There has not been any move yet to remove Father Ted from streaming services in Ireland or the UK.

The hit show celebrated its 25th birthday earlier this year.

The first episode of what many believe was the best Irish comedy series was broadcast 25 years ago in April, as Father Ted was unleashed on the world.

What started off as an obscure sitcom is now so iconic it is to be immortalised on a set of An Post stamps.
