The 19-year-old shot to prominence after an impressive Champions League campaign, netting eight goals in six matches for Red Bull Salzburg including a hat-trick in the opening game against KRC Genk.

His form has carried over into domestic competitions, the Norway international scoring 20 goals in 16 games across the League and Austrian Cup.

Erling will officially join Dortmund, fourth in the Bundesliga, on January 3 for a a fee reported to be in the £18 million mark.

United, The Guardian report, pulled out of the running to sign Haaland because of a disagreement over a buyout clause and future sales.

Alf-Inge played 75 times for Forest , scoring seven times before moving to Leeds in 1997 where Erling was born.

"There was a feeling right from the start that I absolutely wanted to switch to this club, go this route and play football in this incredible Dortmund atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 spectators," Haaland said
