Son of ex-Nottingham Forest defender Alf-Inge Haaland scores nine for Norway in U20 World Cup record

The son of former Nottingham Forest defender Alf-Inge Haland broke an Under-20 World Cup record on Thursday.

Erling Braut Haaland, who remains eligible to play for England, scored nine goals as Norway cruised to a 12-0 win over Honduras.

No team in the tournament's history has been so prolific over 90 minutes in a game that saw two Honduras players given their marching orders.

The 18-year-old striker had previously attracted the attention of Manchester United, Juventus and Boussia Dortmund according to the Guardian, but in January signed for Red Bull Salzburg.

“Haaland should definitely become a world-class striker,” said journalist Oyvind Golo to ESPN.

“He is strong as a bear and fast as a horse. He is a killer; a goal machine.

"The choice of Salzburg is very good, because he is going to be an important player there from the very beginning. It is important to play a lot at his age.”

His father was a regular at the City Ground for three seasons after joining from Young Boys for £250,000.

He then went on to have great success with Leeds United and Manchester City, before a horror challenge from current Forest assistant Roy Keane prematurely ended his career in 2003.
