Son of ex-Nottingham Forest and Leeds United defender becomes first player to score debut Champions League hat-trick since Wayne Rooney

Erling Braut Haaland, son of former Nottingham Forest defender Alf-Inge, has become the first player to score a hat-trick on his Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney.

The 19-year-old was in action for Red Bull Salzburg as they romped to a 6-2 win over Belgian outfit KRC Genk.

And he bagged his 17th goal in nine games this season as he continues to turn heads across Europe.

The Leeds-born teenager had previously attracted the attention of Manchester United, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, according to the Guardian, but instead signed for Salzburg in January.

Back in May, Haaland broke an Under-20 World Cup record after scoring nine goals as Norway cruised to a 12-0 win over Honduras.

No team in the tournament's history has been so prolific over 90 minutes in a game that saw two Honduras players given their marching orders.

His father was a regular at the City Ground for three seasons after joining from Young Boys for £250,000.

He then went on to have great success with Leeds United and Manchester City, before a horror challenge from ex-Red Roy Keane prematurely ended his career in 2003.
