Son of disabled woman who posed for iconic Trafalgar Square plinth sculpture dies aged 19

The son of a woman who was born without arms has died 14 years after an iconic sculpture of her pregnant with him went on London's Trafalgar Square.

Alison Lapper, from Brighton, fought for the right to keep her son, and the sculpture of her was described as one of the best pieces of British art in recent years, the Mirror reports.

However, Parys has now died - 14 years after Marc Quinn's sculpture of her went on display in London.

The piece, entitled 'Alison Lapper Pregnant' was on show from 2005 to 2007 and a giant replica of the sculpture featured in the opening ceremony of the summer Paralympic games opening ceremony in London in 2012.

A copy of the sculpture also featured at the opening ceremony of the Paralympics in London in 2012 (PA)

Miss Lapper's fiance, Si Clift, posted on Facebook: "Tragically, her son Parys Lapper, who was only 19 years old, died suddenly a week ago...

"Ali fought many battles against the establishment to keep Parys, bringing him up by herself in some very difficult circumstances indeed and continued to fight for him throughout his teenage years.

"Ali has expressed a dear wish that she would absolutely love to see as many noisy motorbikes as possible to escort Parys on his final journey from her home in Shoreham by sea to Worthing Crematorium on Thursday 29th to celebrate his life (he would have loved this too!)"

He described Parys as "a mischievous, generous, kind, loving, frustrating, cheeky, forgiving, beautiful boy" and "a good son."

Parys was one of 25 people to feature on the BBC programme Child Of Our Time, which charts participants' lives up until the age of 20.
