Son of dad killed in floods still waits to have breakfast with him every morning

The devastated family of a man found dead in floodwaters have opened up about the heartbreaking impact his death has had on their little grandson.

Two dads, Ghosn Ghosn and Bob Chahin, disappeared after their vehicle was swept off a flooded causeway and into fast-flowing water near Boorowa, three hours southwest of Sydney, last Thursday.

Mr Ghosn’s in-laws, Honriatt and Simon Moujalli, said their daughter Sarah has been left "crushed" by the death of her soulmate of four years.

They revealed the heart-wrenching impact Ghosn's death has had on his 18-month-old son, Isaiah, who keeps asking after his dad and often waits to eat his breakfast with him as they used to do each morning.

"No parent should ever have to go through the torture of seeing their child left devastated after such a tragic loss," Mr Moujalli wrote on a GoFundMe page set up to help the family.

"There are no words to describe the hell my daughter Sarah is living at the moment having lost her soul mate, her true love, the father of their little toddler and her whole world.

"My daughter's heart is crushed. My gorgeous grandson keeps asking for his dad and waits for him to have breakfast with him as he always did and sing and dance together before he headed off to work."

The couple celebrated Isaiah's first birthday in April of this year.

The family's GoFundMe has raised just over $22,000 (£19,500) as of Monday.

"My son in law, God rest his soul, will never see his little boy grow up, and my daughter Sarah is left broken and a widow at such a young age," Mr Moujalli continued.

"I am trying to be the pillar of strength, but when I see my daughter Sarah breaking down and in so much pain it kills me.

"I feel helpless and battered. I just want to hug my daughter and tell her everything will be better.

"I am setting this page up to help Sarah with the long road ahead of her and to help ease the financial burden of raising a child as a single mother and help with bills until she is able to move on, and to give her time to mend her broken heart.

"Thank you in advance for your kindness and support during these difficult times for us all."

On Sunday, New South Wales authorities delivered an update on the salvage and cleanup efforts following the flash flooding which has devastated several areas across the state.

"It's going to be a big couple of days of emergency response in this community until these floodwaters recede and then we can get in and do those damage assessments," NSW SES chief superintendent Ashley Sullivan told ABC TV.

Ninety-nine flood warnings were in place in NSW on Sunday afternoon, with forecasters predicting that the torrents may continue into this week as slow-moving thunderstorms move through the state.
