Son of cop killed, 3 others wounded in shooting at nightclub in Chicago suburb

CHICAGO _ The son of a Harvey police officer was killed and three other people were wounded when gunfire erupted at a strip club in the south Chicago suburb early Wednesday, police said.

The officer's son was shot in the parking lot of the Boogie Nights Club after a fight started inside the club and spilled outside around 2:10 a.m., Harvey Police Chief Greg Thomas said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for the medical examiner identified the victim as Divonni Keel, 25, of Harvey. He is the son of Officer Darnell Keel.

Three other people, including two security guards working there, were shot inside the club, Thomas said.

The three were taken to Metro South and Ingalls Memorial hospitals, Thomas said.

No one was reported in custody.

Arnie's Idle Hour, the predecessor nightclub to Boogie Nights, was at the center of one of the recent federal investigations into corruption in Harvey.

The club's owner had allegedly been making biweekly payments of $3,000 and later $6,000 to relatives of Harvey's mayor for years in order to protect their prostitution racket, according to a criminal complaint filed last week.

Rommell Kellogg, the mayor's brother, and Corey Johnson, the mayor's cousin, were charged last week in connection with the alleged strip club shakedown, which continued until at least last year, according to the complaint.

It wasn't immediately clear whether the club's ownership had changed when its name changed.
