Son jailed for beating dad to a pulp after previously robbing own 83-year-old gran

A son who once robbed his own grandmother has been jailed for beating his dad 'to a pulp'.

Nathan Brine, 28, from Hull left his father with a broken eye socket, forehead, and jaw in a terrifying drug-fuelled assault, reports Hull Live.

The savage beating came after previous attacks on members of his own family, with Brine only recently released from prison for a robbery against his 83-year-old grandma.

Hull Crown Court heard the father had refused to go to hospital for two days after the altercation out of "affection" for his son and loyalty to the family. The two men had a history of fighting.

Paul Genney, prosecuting, said Brine had been offered a home by his 53-year-old father after his release from jail, but "things didn't work out" because Brine took drugs and became difficult and controlling.

Matters then escalated during an argument about Brine moving furniture and treating the place as if it were his own.

The row led to an outbreak of violence in Walton Street, Hull, near the father's home, which Mr Genney said left the father "badly beaten up".

The dad then retreated inside to recover, while Brine went over to his grandmother's home in Longden Street.

Revealing to his aunt the extent of the injuries inflicted, Brine reportedly said: "You need to go in there. I have beaten my Dad to a pulp. You had best come and see what he looks like."

The father had been kicked and suffered fractures to his eye socket, his forehead, and his jaw, while fluid was also leaking down the father's nose. Mr Genney described it as a "sustained attack"

He required surgery at Hull Royal Infirmary under general anaesthetic and needed screws and plates inserted into his jaw. Several decayed teeth were extracted.

Judge Bury said of the father: "He did not go to hospital for two days after the incident so he must have been in significant pain before he sought and obtained treatment.

"This was wildly in excess of any self-defence. This was a prolonged assault. You caused three fractures, one to his eye socket, one to his forehead, and one to his jaw. This is a serious offence."

Despite the accounts, Brine's girlfriend lavished praise upon him in court, claiming that when he was being the "nice Nathan" that she knew, he was "loving and respectful to anyone he comes across".

Brine, 28, of Longden Street, Hull, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on his father on April 27 and was was jailed for two years and eight months.

Prior convictions included a robbery in 2018 on his 83-year-old grandmother following an argument about access to money, for which he was jailed for three years and nine months.

A court at the time heard he smashed a glass door to get in her west Hull bungalow before kicking and punching her as she lay on the floor, leaving her bruised.
