Son Heung-min tipped for success without Harry Kane amid Tottenham striker’s transfer links

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker, Louis Saha, has tipped Son Heung-min to achieve without Harry Kane at Spurs if the England captain is sold to Manchester City.

At 28, Kane is looking to end his 16-year association with the club in order to win silverware before it’s too late.

Speculation about his future gathered even more pace when he failed to return to Tottenham’s training ground on time following his post Euro 2020 holiday.

Manchester City have been touted as Kane’s most likely destination and despite Pep Guardiola having admitted his interest in the England captain, Kane remains firmly the property of Tottenham, despite not being in the squad to face the Citizens in the opening fixture.

However, not much has been said about how Kane’s partner, Son, will fair at Spurs if the club’s leading talisman does leave.

The South Korean forward netted 17 times in the Premier League last season, a figure that was only bettered by Kane at Tottenham, but some have questioned whether he’ll be able to perform at a similarly high level if Kane does leave.

With that in mind, Saha thinks Son has already established himself as a world class player, and has backed him to succeed as Tottenham’s new main man.

“Son is already not just one of the best players in the league but one of the best players in the world. He is unplayable,” he told GentingBet.

“We all know the type of energy that he’s got, the skill level and consistency - he can play seventy games a season with the same tempo.

“Of course, Kane and Son complement each other but Son doesn’t need Kane. He is brilliant in his own right. For me, he’s one of the top players out there.

Keeping Kane will be a bonus for Son, but as someone who has performed consistently well for a few years now, he should still thrive under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

And judging by his opening day performance against City at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday, where he netted the only goal of the game thanks to a brilliant curled effort from outside the box, Son will do just fine on his own.
