Son Heung-min shows off new short-haired look ahead of second week of military training

Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min has got a new look as he prepares for the second week of his training with the marines back in South Korea.

Son arrived on the south Korean island of Jeju last Monday to begin his training with the 9th Brigade of the Marine Corps and his fitness will certainly be tested during the boot camp as he goes on 18-mile marches, is exposed to tear gas and takes part in live-fire drills.

According to Korean media, the first week of his training concentrated on education, including various formal behaviour including saluting, while the second week will now involve those drills as the Spurs star learns how to hold and shoot a live weapon.

Son will be with the Marines until May 8, after which he will return to the United Kingdom ready for when the Tottenham players are hoping to be allowed to train at Hotspur Way again.

In the mean time, photos have emerged from Korea of the Tottenham attacker with what is claimed to be his military haircut.

It is certainly a closer crop than the Spurs fans are used to seeing him with even if it's not the extremely close shave some might have expected.

Here is that photo of the Spurs star that has been cropping up across social media.

The Tottenham fans will hopefully allow him to wear red on this occasion.

Until Mauricio Pochettino granted the player permission to play in the 2018 Asian Games at the start of last season, Son had been set to complete two years of national service back in South Korea, a move which would have required him to break his contract.

By winning that tournament, an U23s competition with overage players that clubs are not required to release players for, the South Korean star became exempt from that service back home.

Instead Son simply has to complete these three weeks of mandatory basic training, which he has been able to fit in during this football shutdown and as his fractured arm is almost fully healed.

He will likely return to the north London club as one of the fittest players after his marine training.
