Tottenham star Son Heung-min sent a text to Andre Gomes over the midfielder's horror injury.
Son was shown a red card for his late challenge on Gomes during Spurs' 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday.
The tackle led to Gomes fracturing and dislocating his ankle with the midfielder facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Son's ban has since been rescinded and he was in action on Wednesday night, scoring twice in Tottenham's win over Red Star Belgrade before apologising to Gomes in his celebration.
After the victory, he revealed: "I text him before I flew over here and he texted me back.
“I just texted him to say best wishes to you, I'm really sorry for you, your family and your teammates.
“I couldn't read it [the reply], after the game, but I still feel really, really bad about this. I feel really sorry.
“Football is a sport where something like this can happen. Nobody wants to see this situation. I'm just so sad this happened and that I was involved with this situation.
“It's been a really, really tough few days.
Gomes underwent surgery earlier this week and sent a message to fans after receiving vast amounts of support.
In the video, which was captioned "Thank you for your unconditional support", he said: "Hi everyone. As you already know everything went well. I'm already at home with my family.
"I would like to thank you all for the support, messages and the positive enegry. Thank you."
