Son Heung-min returns, injured quartet involved - Four things spotted in Tottenham training

Son returns

Son Heung-min is now back at Hotspur Way following his time representing South Korea at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Looking set to exit at the group stage until his late heroics helped seal a memorable win over Portugal to seal a place in the Round of 16, South Korea's journey eventually came to an end in their next match with Brazil hitting them for four.

Having returned to his home country for a quick break following their elimination, Wednesday saw Son recommence training at Tottenham's Enfield base ahead of the Boxing Day clash vs Brentford. In a video posted on the club's Instagram account, Son could be seen taking part in some fitness work as he lined up alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before the pair started to jog around the perimeter of the pitch.

Son, who was not wearing his face mask for the fitness drill, could pull on a Tottenham shirt for the first time since Marseille away when Spurs host Nice in a friendly in N17 next Wednesday.

The other World Cup players returning

Son and Hojbjerg weren't the only players involved in the World Cup to return to training following their time away in Qatar. Ben Davies was also present after representing Wales at the World Cup for the first time since their last appearance in the competition back in 1958.

Pape Matar Sarr was another to restart his work at club level after playing for Senegal. Minutes may have been hard to come by for the youngster but he did impress off the bench in their 3-0 Round of 16 defeat against England.

Joining the rest of the team in undergoing some gym work, those just returning to training will have been put through a number of tests to check their levels following a month away from Hotspur Way.

Injured quartet involved

Antonio Conte's side returned to the pitch last Friday with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Motherwell. A match to give those involved in training some much-needed minutes in the legs, Spurs ran out comfortable 4-0 winners as Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil and a double from Matt Doherty rounded off the scoring.

Conte didn't have all of his players available for the game against the Scottish side, with Ryan Sessegnon, Clement Lenglet, Emerson Royal, Fraser Forster and Lucas Moura absent for the friendly. football.london reported on Friday that Sessegnon was back training on grass but not with the group following his recent injury in the Carabao Cup game at Nottingham Forest.

The other four players were believed to have suffered various minor knocks in training ahead of the game so their absence from the match was precautionary. Four of the aforementioned quintet were spotted putting in the work in the gym in the latest batch of training photos released by the club, with Forster the only one of the five not to be snapped.

Sessegnon appeared to be having a good laugh with good friend Djed Spence, with Lucas doing some stretching work with one of the coaching staff.

Wrapping up warm

London is looking rather festive at present following plenty of snowfall over the past few days. Hotspur Way has had a good dusting of snow as well, with the ground staff doing their best to move it to the side of the pitch so Conte and his team can get down to business on the training field.

With Son and Hojbjerg well wrapped up in the video of the pair jogging around the pitch, it was the same for those training on the club's indoor pitch. Yves Bissouma and Matt Doherty both opted for snoods, with Japhet Tanganga also doing the same but also going for a hat for a bit of extra warmth.

It's safe to say that Cristian Romero and Hugo Lloris aren't currently having these issues out in Qatar.
