Son Heung-min makes claim about Antonio Conte's Tottenham squad and his Hugo Lloris chat

Saturday's 4-1 win over Southampton highlighted that Antonio Conte now has strength in depth at Tottenham. Having to name a number of academy players as substitutes in the run-in last season, the Italian introduced Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet, Matt Doherty and Lucas Moura in the second half against Saints.

With Tottenham having good squads in the past under Mauricio Pochettino, many now believe that Conte's current batch is the strongest group the club has put together in recent years. Son Heung-min, however, believes that isn't important, instead highlighting how crucial their style of play is as a good squad doesn't always guarantee success.

"It’s not important. It’s how you set up, how you add to the squad. We have really, really good players but you have to understand the way we play as quickly as possible," he explained.

"They have been training and those guys only had a short amount of time today but they played really well and I think they are enjoying it. What I want to say is having a squad is not as important as how we play. We have a good squad but it doesn’t bring you success so we have to work until the end of the season."

Richarlison is one of six new arrivals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, joining from Everton in a £60million deal. Available for this weekend's game away at Chelsea after serving his one-match ban, Son has been very impressed with what he has seen from the Brazilian international so far.

"It’s always good to have competition. When I train with Richy in the whole pre-season he’s another unbelievable player," he said. "I am really enjoying playing with him so the competition always makes you better."

Winning the Premier League Golden Boot last season after tying with Mohamed Salah on 23 goals, the South Korean unfortunately wasn't on the scoresheet at the weekend in the 4-1 triumph over Southampton. Very rare for Spurs to score four goals and Son and Harry Kane not to be on the scoresheet, the 30-year-old admitted that he spoke to Hugo Lloris after the game and it's good that the goals are coming from elsewhere.

"It was a very important win in a really positive way. We are very happy to start the season with three points. It’s really important for everyone to contribute with goals," admitted the South Korean.

"When you win 4-1 you expect me or Harry to score but it’s a good sign. I spoke to Hugo after the game and it’s good if someone else is scoring because the collective is more important than the individual. Today the performance was really good and the most important thing was the three points."
