Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and the key decision facing Mauricio Pochettino for Watford clash

Tottenham fans will be hoping that Mauricio Pochettino shakes things up when his side return to Premier League action against Watford on Saturday.

A very disappointing start to the season has left Spurs in ninth after only eight games and they need to start charging up the league table sooner rather than later if the campaign is to be deemed a success.

The team were extremely poor in their last outing against Brighton and it's vitally important that they get back on track given they face tricky away trips to Liverpool and Everton over the next couple of weeks.

The international break probably did come at the right time for the Spurs team and it was actually a positive week or so for many of the squad.

Once again it was Son Heung-min who did the most air miles as he jetted across the globe to represent South Korea in World Cup qualifiers against Sri Lanka and North Korea.

The 0-0 draw against the latter actually took place on Tuesday evening in North Korea and the timing of the game meant that the attacker would return slightly later to Hotspur Way with the vast majority of the squad back at the training base on Wednesday.

Missing the opening two games of the season through suspension after his red card against Bournemouth carried over into the new campaign, the 27-year-old has had a busy schedule since returning to action for Pochettino's team.

Starting in all six of Spurs' league games since making his comeback, the only two games he started on the bench came against Olympiacos and Colchester United, although he was summoned to the pitch in the closing stages with the team needing a goal.

The fact he has spent a number of hours travelling over the past week may see the manager decide that the time is right to drop him down to the bench given that some crucial fixtures are coming up.

It would also give Lucas Moura the chance to come back into the team and that would prove a very popular decision with a number of supporters.

A key player for the team last season as he scored a number of vital goals, including that famous hat-trick against Ajax that saw the team reach the Champions League final, he has cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines in recent weeks.

Certainly not helped by the midfield diamond as Son has started alongside Harry Kane upfront, the Brazilian showed why he should be in the starting XI with a bright cameo against Brighton.

He was one of the only ones to come out of that game with any real credit as he looked to make things happen when Spurs were dead and buried.

One thing that could work in the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man's favour is that he wasn't given the nod to represent his country over the international break and he will go into the weekend feeling very fresh.

As important as this fixture is for Spurs and the key role Son plays in the team, Pochettino may have one eye on the games coming up for the Lilywhites as they look to get things back on track.

The Champions League tie against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night is just as vital after two disappointing results in the competition so far, while the manager will need his strongest team fit and firing for the tough away trip to Liverpool five days later.

Son is going to need a rest sooner rather than later before he burns out, with Lucas himself needing minutes on the pitch after such a stop-start season.

Pochettino has a decision to make over the pair if he persists with the midfield diamond and that may see the latter get the nod after his showing at the Amex and the fact that he remained in north London during the international break.

Regardless of who starts at 3pm on Saturday, Spurs need three points to get their season going again after a start that all concerned will want to forget about rather quickly.
