Son Heung-min injury update may spell trouble for Newcastle and Steve Bruce

Tottenham star Son Heung-min has been ruled out of South Korea's international games this week - but the influential star is eyeing a return in time for Newcastle's crucial game against Jose Mourinho's men.

The forward was initially called up for their friendly against Japan but has withdrawn from the squad with a muscle injury suffered as Spurs lost to Arsenal in the North London derby.

Mourinho was initially unsure of how long he would be out for but our colleagues at Football.London report that he is hopeful of returning in time for the match against Newcastle, which United go into facing intense pressure after the dismal defeat to Brighton.

Tottenham have been inconsistent themselves this season - losing poorly to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League before bouncing back against Aston Villa.

There's no doubt that if Son plays, they are more fearsome proposition than if he is out but either way both managers need a win.

Bruce may have been backed - for now - by Mike Ashley but his position will come under more fierce scrutiny if they lose again.

Mourinho, meanwhile, is reportedly under threat if Spurs don't clinch a top four place.
