Son Heung-min has already made Harry Kane admission amid Mohamed Salah Golden Boot battle

Son Heung-min is very much in the running for the Golden Boot award this season, even though Mohamed Salah has led the way for much of the campaign. The South Korean has scored 20 league goals this season, two less than the Egyptian, with Liverpool having two games left and the Lilywhites still having three to play.

Tottenham are currently four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, but can close the gap if they can secure three points in the rescheduled North London Derby on Thursday. After that, Spurs have to face Burnley at home before ending the season in an away clash against Norwich.

Liverpool's FA Cup final fixture means their next match is against Southampton, after their victory over Aston Villa on Monday, before finishing the season by welcoming Wolves to Anfield. Whilst Jurgen Klopp's side are battling for the league title, Spurs are still hoping to secure Champions League football for next season.

In previous seasons, it has been Son who has been setting up Harry Kane in front of goal more often than not, which has helped the England captain win the Golden Boot award three times. This season has seen a change and the 28-year-old has scored 13 league goals this season, with Kane registering eight assists and Son seven.

Kane has arguably become a more all-round player, dropping into deeper positions to help his team with creativity, as well as in front of goal. Last month the South Korean opened up on the strong on-field relationship he has with Kane and was full of praise for the striker.

"Harry is playing more for the team because he wants to help the team. As a striker, sometimes you feel like you should be selfish, but Harry isn't," Son admitted, in an interview with Stadium Astro. "Harry sometimes should be selfish and Harry is giving so much for the team because sometimes he can shoot but he's giving assists, he's scoring goals. I think he's doing everything for the team.

"He has the attitude for a striker, 100 per cent, I know him. As a teammate, I want Harry to score so many goals, I want Harry to win everything because I know what he does for the team," he added.

The 29-year-old produced the only Tottenham goal of the game, against Liverpool. Both players scored in the previous 3-1 victory over Leicester, in which Son scored a second half brace and assisted Kane's goal. The duo have now had the benefit of Dejan Kulusevski playing alongside them, who has settled in well and made an instant impact, since his arrival in January. The Swede has scored three goals and registered eight assists in just 15 Premier League appearances.

This has made the attacking trio a dangerous threat to their opponents and the quality they bring helps Tottenham win a number of games. As the season comes to a close, the Golden Boot award is one of the individual rewards that Son could win.

However in his recent interview, he admitted that he would actually like his teammate to win it. "To be honest, I want Harry to win [the Golden Boot] because what he does for the team is just incredible," the South Korean explained. "I always say I want to help Harry because I have one of the best strikers in the world next to me and if he can win anything, I'm ready to help him."

This highlights just how strong the duo's bond is, both on and off the pitch. Unless Kane goes on a ridiculous scoring spree in Spurs' final few matches - which has happened before in the 2016/17 campaign when Kane scored eight goals in his final three matches, it is highly unlikely he will catch Salah in the race for his fourth Golden Boot award. However, Son has a solid chance of winning and that could give him an extra boost, going into Tottenham's final games of the 2021/22 campaign.
