Son Heung-min fires warning to Kevin De Bruyne after Tottenham stadium remarks

Heung-Min Son has warned Kevin De Bruyne that Tottenham's ministry of sound will put his noise out of joint.

Manchester City powerhouse De Bruyne airily dismissed Spurs' shiny new home, and the wall of decibels generated by the 17,500-capacity south stand, scoffing: “Everybody has a stadium. Everybody has supporters.”

But when a Blue Moon rises over north London in the Champions League quarter-finals, Son believes City will be shocked when the N17 choral society pumps up the volume.

Tottenham's South Korean livewire hit back: “Maybe the City players don't realise because they always play at home, but we've been nearly two years away from our home stadium.

Kevin de Bruyne fires warning to Tottenham ahead of Champions League showdown

“What we've done in those past two years was very positive, but we missed home a lot and we can show them tomorrow night the difference between Wembley and our new stadium.”

Son christened Spurs' £1 billion new build, which rises above the Edmonton skyline like a mother spaceship, by scoring the first goal in last week's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace .

And Quadruple-chasing City had better be ready for Tottenham's wonderwall of noise in the first instalment of three games between the clubs in 11 days which will define their seasons.

Son said: “I don't need to say how big this is: It's massive, everyone knows how important it is.

Pep Guardiola echoes Jose Mourinho with Community Shield declaration

“All the people are excited to see the first Champions League game in our new stadium and we want to give them a good performance and good result.

“We should enjoy the moment, have fun at our unbelievable new stadium and I think it will be amazing.”

City outplayed Spurs when they won 1-0 at Wembley last October on a pitch badly disfigured by NFL gridiron heavyweights Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles 24 hours earlier.

De Bruyne's claim that the Tottenham Hotspur stadium will present similar tests of nerve and technique smacks of former West Brom midfielder John Trewick declining a visit to the Great Wall of China on a ground-breaking club tour 40 years ago, allegedly shrugging: “You've seen one wall, you've seen them all.”

Trewick denies the famous one-liner, but there will be little scope for KDB to get away with mortar if City come unstuck in the first leg.

AC Milan eyeing shock swoop for Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino

Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino has won only two of his 14 head-to-head duels with Pep Guardiola as a coach, but one of them ended the City messiah's 100 per cent start in English football in 2016.

And of the Tottenham side who won 2-0 that afternoon, 10 of the starting line-up are still at the club.

If Poch Spice can extract three outstanding European ties from his team, he could yet deliver Tottenham's first trophy within eight weeks of moving into their new home where it took neighbours Arsenal eight years to exercise the silver polish after they baptised the Emirates.

Asked if Guardiola can complete an historic Quadruple, Pochettino – in one of his less expansive moods – replied: “That is a question for him.

“We are going to try and do our job and beat them, but in the last few years Manchester City is building to win everything.

“If one club is able to win everything, it is Manchester City. They are in a very good place.

“In quarter-finals, the big teams and big players love to play in this type of game. We need to be sure to match their motivation and desire, and then match nearly everything else.”
