A man is under police guard in hospital following the suspected domestic violence-related death of his mother in Sydney's west.
NSW Police went to a home in Greendale, near Liverpool, at about 9.30pm on Friday and found the woman dead inside.
The son of the woman, who was believed to be in her 70s, was arrested in the early hours of Saturday at a service station at West Ballina - more than a seven hour drive away.
The 41-year-old man has been taken to Lismore Base Hospital for assessment and remains there under police guard.
The woman is yet to be formally identified.
Detectives are still investigating.
