The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has sentenced former Democrat MP Somkuan Ob-orm to a suspended one-month jail term and a 4,000-baht fine for filing a false assets declaration. He was also banned from taking political posts for five years.
The court convicted the former MP from Nakhon Sawan of filing a false report which was required one year after leaving his position as an MP on May 10, 2011.
Initially, he was given a two-month sentence and an 8,000-baht fine. However, as he confessed, the jail term was suspended and he received a 4,000-baht fine.
Last month, former permanent secretary for transport Supoj Saplom was sentenced to 10 months in jail for failing to declare assets after a burglary which took place at his house.
Supoj was sentenced by the same court as Somkuan but his prison term was not suspended.
In March, the court sentenced Kasem Nimmolrat, former Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai, to 12 months in jail for concealing his wealth. His 168 million baht assets were also seized.
